Green Stories Writing Competitions Stories for children

Age limit: None
We are looking for stories for children that in some way touch upon ideas around building a sustainable society. We will consider all genres, and the story doesn't have to be about sustainability or climate change directly - but stories must include green solutions. Do feel free to draw upon the resources in the Green Stories website to write your story. Each page provides links to articles/videos that describe the ideas and also ideas for how such ideas may be integrated into stories.
Categories:
- Preschool/illustrated books (for kids 2-6 years old) with a max. of 1,000 words
- Young readers category (for kids 7-11 years old) with a max. of 2,500 words
Prizes:
£200 for the best in each category.
We also have agreement from a literary agent from the top agency Curtis Brown to read the top entries and consider any writers they think suitable for representation.

All submissions must be in English and conform to the green stories criteria of showing a positive vision of what a sustainable society might look like or in some way smuggling in green solutions/policies/characters in the context of an otherwise mainstream story.
Why this competition is so great: You could directly make a positive environmental impact in the world and to people's lives - research shows that that solution-based stories, or stories that smuggle in green ideas/characters in an otherwise mainstream story, are more likely to inspire greener behaviours than catastrophic tales of climate change, thus creating a cultural body of work that presents positive visions of sustainable societies is necessary to enable a shift towards a more sustainable society.

Final Deadline:

14th Sep.
